inspired by abalone shells, the colours and shine that can be found in these shells, and also by sparkling disco balls.
this collection imagines all the aunties, uncles and cousins dancing around at a disco, dripped out in abalone and sparkling beads. feeling fancy, luxurious and free.
i am inspired by Disco as a social movement, a rebellious counter culture that created safe spaces for marginalized people. i see parallels between disco and pow wow music and culture.. and how sometimes the beats even line up.
i hope this beadwork reminds you we are not alone and we have always found ways to fight the power and keep ourselves safe, happy and rooted in our spirits.

these are made entirely of beautiful charlotte facet cut beads, they hang about 5 inches.
these contain faceted micro and 3mm labradorite, said to help connect you to the spirit world and your Ancestors, protect against negative energy and hear your intuition.
because they are wider than my usual fringe they may curl or fold a bit while wearing, but can be gently pressed back to be straight across.
