inspired by abalone shells, the colours and shine that can be found in these shells, and also by sparkling disco balls.
this collection imagines all the aunties, uncles and cousins dancing around at a disco, dripped out in abalone and sparkling beads. feeling fancy, luxurious and free.
i am inspired by Disco as a social movement, a rebellious counter culture that created safe spaces for marginalized people. i see parallels between disco and pow wow music and culture.. and how sometimes the beats even line up.
i hope this beadwork reminds you we are not alone and we have always found ways to fight the power and keep ourselves safe, happy and rooted in our spirits.

these hang 4 inches and are made with abalone shell beads in round, oval and disco ball, faceted labradorite, faceted glass crystal, rhodium plated hammered hematite and aqua cube shaped hematite.
these hang on .999 20 gauge silver plated headpins, stainless steel nickel free kidney hooks.
the abalone beads pay homage to the ocean, and hematite is said to be good for grounding oneself, finding protection and calming yourself down.
these contain faceted labradorite, said to help connect you to the spirit world and your Ancestors, protect against negative energy and hear your intuition.
