guxʷdema: universe: eagle nebula
these pieces are inspired by actual NASA imagery of the Eagle Nebula, also known as Messier 16, M16, or Star Queen Nebula. the nebula contains several active star-forming regions and lies in the Sagittarius Arm of the Milky Way. it is estimated to be 1-2 million years old, and is approx 5700 light years away (info taken from Wikipedia).
i am inspired by the Haisla word guxʷdema which ive seen translated as universe but also world in my word resource lists. i love thinking about what my Ancestors meant when they used this word. i imagine maybe it meant everything outside ourselves, everything out there, everything around us.
i create these pieces using a giant, growing and evolving bead mix ive been adding to for the past six years. there are over 150 different types of beads in this mix, some of which i no longer have.
these contain charlotte facet cut, czech, toho, delica, vintage and miyuki beads. they also include 24k gold plated beads, 24k gold lined opal beads, and glow in the dark toho beads. these are precious, one of a kind pieces. they took anywhere between 4-20 hours of work, spread out over multiple days and weeks, working with no pattern, just looking at the image and adding bead by bead. i make these very rarely due to the eye strain, muscle/neck strain and intense focus they require. i hope my work and care is evident in these precious wearable artworks.
they contain multiple different semi precious gemstones, and each pair will include an info card with detail on your pair.
these hang approx 7.8 inches

all earrings are handmade by me in small batches with good energy and heart. they hang on either gold plated nickel free or surgical steel nickel free hooks.
each piece is smudged before mailing, to cleanse them and get them ready for their next journey.
